That’s a good question! Typically, people underestimate how much space they need. Choosing the right storage unit size isn't just about figuring out how many boxes you have. In addition to the amount of boxes, inventory, furniture, or "stuff" you have, it is critical to consider the following:
Typically, the longer you are planning to store, the more organized your unit/container should be, however it is still best to be organized, even if for a short-term rental.
We recommend that customers plan aisles in their unit for easy access, that they do not pack items right against walls, doors or ceilings, to allow for airflow, and to measure the large, awkward items they have to figure out how they will fit into the storage unit.
To help you figure out what size unit you need, visit our Sizes & Pricing page for a helpful size comparison chart, which can help you determine what you need. You can also call or email about your storage needs and we can help you figure out what size is best.

At Storage Solutions, we control access to our secure, self-storage facility, but your lock is the best line of defense against anyone tampering with your unit. When it comes to securing your storage unit, not all locks are created equal. Learn more about how to choose a lock.
How to physically lock your unit depends on the type of self-storage unit you have rented:
